Spring is here and many new moving companies are “Springing” up everywhere.

Here at A-Team we are amazed at the sheer number of new moving companies that are popping up seemingly over night. A lot of them are good reputable companies, but many are unlicensed to provide provide any sort of moving services. Moving with an unlicensed company can only end in a disaster, so we thought we would provide you a few tips to help you make sure that you’ve chosen a legitimate mover.

1. Always make sure that the moving company has a valid “US Depart of Transportation(US D.O.T.)” number and “Motor Carrier (MC) number. These numbers should always be listed on any quote that a moving company provides, and easily found on their websites. You should never have to ask the company to provide you with these numbers, it’s a bad sign if they are hiding them!

2. Always verify that the company has active licensing, trucks, and insurance. You can check this at the following website.

US Department of Transportation

There you will find complaints filed with the US D.O.T, and all insurance/licensing information about the moving company. Remember knowledge is power!

3. In the state of Texas, and only in Texas, moving companies are required to have a Texas D.O.T. number as well as the US D.O.T. Almost all moving companies outside the state of Texas will lack such a number, therefore they can not legally pick your items up in Texas. They will either broker the job to a company in Texas, or illegally pick up your items and run the risk of having your goods confiscated by the police! Never take that risk.

We hope these tips will help you distinguish between the real moving companies, and the “fly by night” moving scams.

So apparently the BBB = BAD BAD BAD!!!

It was recently brought to our attention that the Better Business Bureau, has come under scrutiny for bad business practices! That’s right, the organization that many people hold in such high regard was actually found to be a greedy, unscrupulous business itself. This is a shame, because many consumers base purchases solely on BBB ratings. Apparently this is not the way to go. Please check out this story by ABC news which exposes the BBB for the shade organization that they are. We were shocked that the BBB gave terrorist organizations, A+ ratings!

To help make your move stress-free, below are a few tips that you can do to before your scheduled move:

• Keep the weight of each box at or under forty (40) pounds (less for fragile items).
• Label each box, marking which room it will go to upon delivery.
• Pack fragile items carefully in separate boxes using the proper packing materials and label those boxes “FRAGILE”.
• Make sure to tape each box shut.
